Former sand quarries
The sand pits are former sand quarries that were previously used for the extraction of quartz, known as the glorious Molse white sand. They were completely transformed into a nature reserve, partly at the instigation of sand extraction company Sibelco. One of the sand pits connects to the De Maat nature reserves in Mol and the Blauwe Kei in Lommel. It is a place where hikers can fully enjoy the surroundings, both in winter and summer. There is a beautiful large inland lake with all kinds of fauna and flora.
Quartz Experience Center
Nearby you will also find 't Kristallijn, an exhibition space where beautiful exhibitions regularly take place. Furthermore, there is the Quartz Experience Center, where you can learn more about quartz mining in the region. Attention! The museum is temporarily closed.
