Group excursion: Jakob Smits Museum
Get to know Mol's most famous painter during a visit to the Jakob Smits Museum. For decades, Smits captured typical Kempen life on canvas. During the tour, we will take you into the world of the master and reflect on the works of Smits and the Mol School. Few artists have immortalized the Kempen as strikingly as Jakob Smits. He had boundless admiration for everyday farm life, the religious character of the people and the Kempen nature. Smits was born in 1855 in Rotterdam. In 1888, he moved to Achterbos where he remained until his death in 1928. During this forty-year period, he painted and etched an oeuvre that August Vermeylen called a 'highest glory of our art'.
