Pilgrimage Via Monastica
Pilgrimage Via Monastica is a walking tour that starts in the North Brabant Vessem and crosses our beautiful Mol. The Via Monastica takes its name from the monastic places along the pilgrimage route, such as the Premonstratensian abbeys of Postel, Tongerlo, Averbode and Leffe. You walk through regions with a very diverse landscape: the Kempen, Haspengouw, the Meuse Valley and the Ardennes forests of the Viroin.

Take the challenge

Decide for yourself how long you want to make your hike. Take up the challenge and pilgrimage locally and who knows, you might eventually reach Santiago de Compostela.

Gems from Mol

When you arrive in Postel or start here, be sure to visit the Norbertine abbey and its associated shop. Did you know that you can also spend the night here?

You continue your pilgrimage towards the nature reserve 'Het Groesgoor' in Dessel. If you feast your eyes, you will notice the typical vegetation along the waterway. You will find a variety of plants and trees.

Before you know it you are in den Diel. A unique nature reserve with winding and narrow paths. You can still find carnivorous plants here. Rest assured, hikers are left alone. You continue walking and enter the Maat nature reserve. Poplar plantations and spritwells currently determine the appearance of De Maat. With a bit of luck you may encounter Scottish highland cattle, which roam freely here. Through their grazing behavior, these impressive animals maintain the varied landscape.

Then you walk towards Sunparks along the Put van Rauw. An old sand quarry that was previously used for the extraction of quartz, known as the glorious Molse white sand. They were completely transformed into a nature reserve, partly at the instigation of sand extraction company Sibelco.

Finally, you continue towards Balen and cross Gompelsbroek. A beautiful flood area on the Scheppele Nete.
