The Fit
Wilfried Peeters, also known as 'de Fitte', was born in Mol on July 10, 1964. Wilfried started his cycling career at the Balense Bicycle Club. From 1986 to 2001 he was a professional cyclist.
Wilfried was best known as a specialist in cobblestone racing and rode a total of 33 monuments, including 9 times the Tour de France. Here he won the team time trial twice in 1993 and 1994.
Achievements
In 1994 he won Gent-Wevelgem. In 1998 he came 3rd in Paris-Roubaix, a year later he achieved a 2nd place.
After his cycling career, he became team manager of Patrick Lefevere's Quick-Step team, where he has now used his experience as a cyclist for more than 21 years to lead the team in the cobbled classics and other tours.
His team management career also coincided with many victories by Tom Boonen for many years.
Wilfried has three children: Yasmien and the twins Laura and Yannick. Yannick was also a cyclist for a few years. He was once European champion in cyclo-cross and twice Belgian champion.
